Don't Forget Your Girlfriends

I sat on a summer day, drinking iced tea and visiting with my mother.
"Don't forget your girlfriends," Mother advised, clinking the ice cubes in her glass.
No matter how much you love your husband, you are still going to need girlfriends.
Remember to go places with them now and then;
and do things with them, even when you don't necessarily want to.
And remember that girlfriends are not only friends, but sisters, daughters, mothers, grandmothers and other relatives too.
Women supporting and relating to other women is our responsibility and our gift.
"What a funny piece of advice," I thought.
"Hadn't Ijust gotten married?
Hadn't I just joined the couple-world?
I was now a married woman, for goodness sake, not some young girl who needed friends!"
But I listened to my Mom. I kept in contact with my girlfriends and even found some
new ones along the way. As the years tumbled by, one after another, I gradually came to understand that Mom really knew what she was talking about!
Here is what I know:
Girl friends bring casseroles and scrub your bathroom when you need help;
Girlfriends keep your children and your secrets.
Girlfriends give advice when you ask, sometimes you take it and sometimes you don't.
Girlfriends don't always tell you you're right, but they usually tell the truth.
Girlfriends still love you, even when they disagree with your choices.
Girlfriends laugh with you and don't need canned jokes to start the laughter.
Girlfriends pull you out of jams.
Girlfriends don't keep a calendar of who hosted the other's last big party.
Girlfriends will celebrate for your son or daughter when they graduate, get married or have a baby, in whichever order that happens.
Girlfriends are there for you in an instant, and when the hard times come.
Girlfriends will drive through blizzards, rainstorms, hail, heat, and gloom of night to get to you when your hour of need is desperate.
Girlfriends listen when you lose a job or a friend.
Girlfriends listen when your children break your heart.
Girlfriends listen when your parents' minds and bodies fail.
Girlfriends cry with you when someone you loved dies.
Girlfriends support you when the men in your life let you down.
Girlfriends help you pick up the pieces when men pack up and go.
Girlfriends rejoice at what makes you happy, and are ready to go out and kill what makes you unhappy.
Times passes. Life happens. Distance separates. Children grow up.
Marriages fail. Love waxes and wanes. Hearts break. Careers end.
Jobs come and go. Parents die. Colleagues forget favors.
Men don't call when they say they will.
But girlfriends are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.
A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley, and you have to walk it for yourself, your girlfriends will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you. Or come in and carry you out. My daughter, sisters-in-law, nieces, cousins, extended family,
and friends bless my life.
The world wouldn't be the same without them, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead, nor did we know how much we would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still. ~Author Unknown

Wearing Her Big Girl Panties

Well, little Miss Gianna is now 2 1/2, and is currently doing her "potty training". At first she was not at all fond of the idea. As a matter of fact, she down right refused. So couple of weeks ago... I was shopping at our local Dollar General Store, and I found the cutest Dora and Princess (Cinderella, Snow White and Belle) panties. I just knew she would LOVE them! I thought to myself...OK tomorrow I am going to sit down with her, and have a serious talk about using the potty.

So when she arrived the next morning, I wasted no time. We sat down on the floor, and I told her about the cute panties I found, and how only BIG girls get to wear Dora and Princess panties. I promised her that we would go to the store, and buy them. I told her about all the cool things she would get to do if she started using the potty. Like, getting a gummy bear (she calls them Gummy Yums) each time she used the potty. Going to mothers day out to play with other kids, and even taking gymnastics!

Now, she's looking at me with a very serious face, and I am thinking, OH YES...she's paying attention! She gets it! So I ask her the million dollar question. "So what do you think, Gianna? Are you ready to wear your big girl panties?" She raised her eyebrows, her forehead wrinkled, and she responded..."Keeka, you got a booga in you nose"

A Few Of Our 2010 Winter Festivities

This photograph was taken just before the boys left for their Lamar University Winter Concert performance. Could they possibly look any more thrilled? Me: You two could smile just a little! Caleb: We are smiling just a little Mom! Me: Okey Dokey...Click! I have tried staring at the photo, but I still can't make out a smile. As a matter of fact, Caleb looks a little like my brother in this photo, and for some reason I have this overwhelming urge to walk right up to him and thump his nose.

Shelby's winter concert. It is simply amazing how beautifully these kids play. They sound so professional. The photograph is not great. For some reason I just cannot seem take a good photo in that auditorium. It is because of the lighting I'm sure, and my lack of understanding of how to use it properly.
.
Matthew enjoying a beautiful day at Claiborne West Park. I got some pretty good shots of Matthew for Christmas. Getting him to sit down on the ground took a little time, but once he felt secure...he relaxed and smiled. I also got some pretty funny shots. He is such a clown.
And finally a couple of shots of Shelby and her date before the 2010 Jingle Bell Ball. We had such a great time shopping and getting ready for this event. This was actually Shelby's first "real" date. I mean she has had dates where we dropped her off and picked her up, but this young man picked her up, took her out and brought her home. She had a blast!

Gianna Rose

Happy 2nd Birthday precious baby. You have brought so much fun and laughter to my life and I have truly enjoyed spending time with you. You are an angel and I love you very much! ---Keeka

A little girl can be sweeter (and badder) oftener than anyone else in the world. she can jitter around, and stomp, and make funny noises that frazzle your nerves yet just when you open your mouth she stands there demure with that special look in her eyes. A girl is Innocence playing in the mud, Beauty standing on its head, and Motherhood dragging a doll by the foot.

Pink Glove Dance!

Emily (MacInnes) Somers, created, directed and choreographed this video in Portland last month for her Medline glove division as a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. This was all her idea to help promote their new pink gloves. She was able to get so many employees, doctors and patients to participate, and it has really started to catch on. They clearly had a lot of fun doing it. I am told that when the video gets 1 million hits, Medline has promised to make a huge contribution to the hospital, as well as offering free mammograms for the community. Please check it out. It's an easy and great way to donate to a wonderful cause, and who hasn't been touched by breast cancer? Lets help them to get 1,000,000 hits. Dance on !!!

I Was Tagged By Sweet Sue

Well...not exactly...she was tagged and rather than tag 8 others..she invited anyone to participate if they wished. We are supposed to open the 6th folder of our photo's and choose the 6th photo...And this is what I found in mine.
dsc_0441

Well...this isn't as beautiful as the picture of Sue, her husband and grandchildren in their flower garden...but still it's pretty sweet. It is a female Cardinal who first came by to take straw for her nest...but now comes and gets food from a small feeder we have on our deck. Nothing goes hungry at our home.

"If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." ~ St. Francis Of Assisi~

Here is another picture.
csc_0449
I hope you can see her beautiful orange beak.

Ok...so what I am suppose to do is pick 8 people to tag...but I am going to follow Sue's lead and just say...if you would like to participate...that would be wonderful. Please be sure to let me know if you do so I can come by your blog and visit. If you have a moment please stop by and visit Sue's Beautiful blog Where Memories Are Made .You will love it there...her farm is like a dream.

Have a beautiful Sunday!

Tattoo-Do you have one or more?

The women of today have no qualms about going under the knife for vanity’s sake. They are not scared of knives. Neither are they with needles. Tattooing is increasingly getting popular among women as more and more female celebrities flaunt their body accessories in the form of tattoos. What makes it so popular? Tattooing is a form of self-expression. In this era, women have their say on just about anything and they have the freedom to do what they like. Unlike before when tattoos on women were looked down upon by society, it is now something women can be proud of. Tattoos mean strength, power, beauty and sensuality. And these are the things that women want. Women generally favor more colorful, fun, and intricate tattoo designs such as butterflies, fairies, and flower tattoos which is probably the most sellable among women especially the younger ones. These tattoo designs bring out the beauty and sensuality in them. But there are men who also wear flower tattoos and this commonly symbolizes someone close to their hearts and may even be accompanied with a name or initials of that woman. Flower tattoos come in all forms, colors and sizes. The size would depend on the person wearing the tattoo. Whether she want it to be small, cute and inconspicuous and sexy, or big and obvious to prove a point or make a statement, is totally up to her because tattoos also spell freedom. Any flower design that you think of can be made into a tattoo. The rose is undeniably one of the most popular flower tattoos to date. But any flower that you want can be recreated into a tattoo by a talented tattoo artist. Different flowers have different symbolisms. Here are a list of common flower tattoos and their meanings: Baby’s breath: Innocence, everlasting love Bells of Ireland: Good luck Carnation: Luck, health, affection, true love, woman Chrysanthemum: Truth, cheerfulness, optimism, peace Daffodil: Respect, new beginnings, happiness Daisy: Innocence, purity, loyalty Dandelion: Faithfulness, wishes come true Forget-Me-Not: Remembrance, hope, true love Freesia: Innocence Gladiolus: Beauty, infatuation, strength Hibiscus: Delicate beauty Hyacinth: Playfulness, carefree Iris: Wisdom, friendship, faith, valor Jasmine: Sensuality, elegance, wealth Lavender: Devotion Lilac: Confidence Lily: Wealth, innocence, modesty Magnolia: Dignity, beauty, love of nature Orchid: Rare beauty, refinement, long life, many children Primrose: Youthfulness, love Rosemary: Remembrance, hope, purity Sunflower: Adoration, loyalty, luck Tulip: Fame, beauty, love, charity Violet: Faithfulness, innocence, modesty, calm Weeping willow: Remembrance, affection, friendship The color of the flower used in the tattoo could also determine its meaning. A rose, for instance, means femininity, eternal love and beauty; but a dark crimson or black rose could mean death or deep sorrow. You can research for the different meanings of different flower tattoos before you get one for yourself unless it has a personal meaning to you. A tattoo is a personal thing; whether you want flower tattoos or any design you want or the meaning you want to convey is determined solely by the person who will wear them, you. If you want to express something though a tattoo, go ahead. If you want to get one as an accessory or to raise your sexiness level up one notch, no one’s stopping you. It is your prerogative. Nothing beats the smell of freedom.
I personally have a vine of magenta roses and leaves climbing around my right ankle. I got it in my early 30's. Would I do it again? Yes, I would. How about you?

Diet, Supplements and Menopause

This is a topic that has become really important to me. In October of 2007, at age 41 I had an emergency hysterectomy. I was not able to keep my ovaries so I was immediately thrown into menopause. The hot flashes became a nightmare for me. Currently I am using HRT...but I am hoping that will not be the case for long. There are many natural treatments
that have become part and parcel of the lives of women the world over because they are safe, simple and are wonderfully effective. One of the emerging trends and also highly accepted ones are vitamin for menopause treatments. Are vitamins really important in menopause? Menopause is a transition period where the body shuts down the fertility functions. In this manner the ovulation ceases, and with it a host of hormones which regulated it for a couple or so decades fall useless and are found in lesser and lesser amounts. The rest of the body reacts (usually violently) to this withdrawal and there are minor and major breakdowns in many functions of the body. The first thing that is affected is the skin, then the mucous membranes, then the skeleton, and so on. Each of these afflictions can be safely counteracted by a dose of vitamins. Vitamins E, A, C and B complex have been known to work wonders when used orally, externally and/or internally. Hence using a vitamin for menopause is a good idea. Taking vitamins naturally One can always take vitamins in the form of pills; also the vitamin can be absorbed through skin though cream and lotions applications. In some cases injections are given to supplement it fast and safely. However, the best way is to get it naturally through a vitamin and mineral rich diet. Vitamin for menopause is actually a very feasible and good way to treat most of the symptoms. There are many foods which can provide all the necessary vitamins and minerals to fight the battle against menopause symptoms successfully. The point remains whether you are able to take the decision to follow strict dietary guidelines whereby you eat healthy, live healthy and stay healthy. Vitamin K - the wonder vitamin for menopause There are recent studies showing that Vitamin K can do much more than prevent blood coagulation. Vitamin K is not found to be highly beneficial for menopause, but also in the diagnosis and treatment for lung, liver and heart diseases. In menopause Vitamin K has been seen as an active ingredient in combating a host of symptoms, fact which was known a few years ago. Active research is taking place, since it was found that Vitamin K is the best vitamin for menopause yet found till date.

Are you going though menopause? If so or even if you are not... maybe we can talk, share information and help each other get through this unique and interesting time of life.
